The Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS) is one of the world’s most recognized quantity surveying organizations, comprising 15 professional institutions representing 15 countries, namely Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Fiji, South Korea, South Africa, and Thailand.

The PAQS Congress 2025, held in Jakarta, Indonesia, was proudly hosted by the Ikatan Quantity Surveyor Indonesia (IQSI) with the theme:
“Harnessing AI and Digital Technology for Smart Construction – Towards Net Zero, Decarbonization, and Innovative Building Materials.”

The congress successfully brought together around 300 participants, including professionals, quantity surveyors, cost engineers, students, and academicians from across the globe, fostering knowledge exchange, collaboration, and innovation in the construction industry.

Day One
The first day featured the PAQS Young Quantity Surveyors (YQS) Programme, where young quantity surveyors aged 40 and below gathered to share updates on the latest construction developments in their respective countries, network, and exchange ideas and best practices. In addition, the host organized a painting workshop, giving participants the opportunity to showcase their creativity and brushstroke skills.

 

 

Day Two
The second day continued with the PAQS YQS Programme, where participants visited MRT Jakarta Phase 2 and the iconic PIK2 development in North Jakarta. At the same time, the PAQS Committee Meetings were held, including the Education Committee, Digitalization Committee, Sustainability Committee, and Research Committee, to discuss ongoing initiatives and collaborations.

 

 

Day Three
The third day was dedicated to the PAQS Board Meeting, where various reports were presented by the committees alongside updates from each member country. The meeting concluded with a gift exchange ceremony and the signing of the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between professional organizations. The evening ended with the President’s Dinner, a formal gathering celebrating the occasion.

 

 

Day Four
The fourth day marked the official opening ceremony of the congress, highlighted by a flag-bearing parade, officiation by the Guest of Honour, and captivating traditional Indonesian dance performances. The ceremony was followed by keynote addresses from A/Prof. Dr. Sr. Eugene Seah, Sr. Dr. Nazirul Fariq, and Prof. D.Sc. Ir. Mohammed Ali Berawi. The remainder of the day included presentations from distinguished speakers across countries, covering topics such as the QS profession, artificial intelligence, Building Information Modelling (BIM), digitalisation, and other emerging industry subjects.

 

 

Day Five
The final day began with keynote speeches from Prof. Dr. Ir. Manlian Ronald A. Simanjuntak, Sr. Dr. Ong See Lian, and A/Prof. PP Sr. Dr. Naseem Ameer Ali, followed by a series of sessions aligned with the congress theme. The closing ceremony featured the prestigious PAQS Awards and the symbolic handover of the PAQS flag to the Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka (IQSSL), the host for PAQS 2026. The congress concluded with a Gala Dinner at Raffles Hotel Jakarta, where cultural performances from each country entertained the audience and distinguished awards were presented to outstanding individuals
